Tavernetta is located at the Union Station complex, Denver, Colorado. It’s a more casual version of the owners flag ship restaurant, Frasca in Boulder, Colorado. The lounge area with the adjoining bar and a large fireplace is the place to enjoy Italian food and wine. The kitchen is showcased as you walk to the more formal dining area.
We enjoyed several happy hour food items including cheese, tartines, and a small pasta dish . One party choose from the dinner menu, ravioli, and a Crostatina for dessert. With the cold weather, a strong glass of Chianti wine . Remember, a glass of wine for only $7 can be had at Happy Hour!
First, the tartines had figs, goat cheese, and onions. The toppings were excellent in taste but sadly the bread was too tough. Next, the Gorgonzola cheese and honey was delicious. The little dishes called Frittatine were fried balls of pasta, prosciutto, cheese, and peas. They were the highlight and one could eat a bowl. From the extensive dinner menu, the ravioli made with squash and ricotta cheese, and cooked in brown butter was very good. The dessert of the pear and chocolate crostatine was a hit. Lastly, the Poggerino Chianti selected by the sommelier was bright red and strong, perfect for a cold and snowy night. One tip as parking is very limited, you may valet park at the Bjorn Hotel next door for $10.00.
Finally, service was excellent!
My ratings are: It’s OK, Good, Very Good, and Excellent.
The verdict⚖️ for Tavernetta is Very Good.
