Chook Is a casual restaurant located at 1300 S. Pearl St., Denver, CO. The word chook, is Australian slang for chicken. They cook everything over charcoal including the vegetables. Alex Seidel of Fruition and Adam Schlegel of Snooze are behind this place. It has been open since December 2018. They are in the final stages of opening a second location east of the Capitol in Denver. This is only the second restaurant in Denver I’ve found to have Australian roots.
Ordering at Chook is done at the counter leaving you to hunt for a table. You are not given a number after ordering, instead a picture of Australia guides the server to your table.
This night, one of the customers present was the former governor for the state of Colorado, Bill Ritter.
We had the following: a half of chicken with gravy, rolls, a bowl of charred veggies ( carrots, broccoli, and cauliflower ), two beers, cola, a plate of three pulled chicken sliders and dessert.
The chicken with gravy was delicious. The added Chook seasoning salt was the difference in adding flavor and spice to the chicken. The bowl of charred veggies had too much cauliflower. It could use some beets or squash to soften the bowl. The plate of pulled chicken sliders were just OK as they lacked great flavor. The beers were very good. The dessert was a yellow cake with chocolate and coconut frosting. Very good and only $4.
My ratings are: It’s OK, Good, Very Good, and Excellent.
My rating for Chook is Good and definitely a step above Kentucky Fried Chicken or other chain restaurants .
