One of Denver’s newest restaurants, Le Bilboquet, has a history in NYC as the “snobbiest” according to the NYPost. The reputation was based upon its door policy of not seating causally dressed parties (no yoga pants). Bilboquet is French for the name of a game children play that involves a stick with a cup at one end where an attached ball is swung on a string trying to catch the ball into the cup.
Denver is the fourth branch of this restaurant with others in Sag Harbour, Atlanta, and Dallas. One of the investors in this restaurant is Eric Clapton.
The Denver restaurant is located at 3rd Ave. and St Paul in Cherry Creek. Valet parking is available as parking is very tight in this neighborhood. It’s a large and open restaurant with extra outdoor seating and a lounge area. The kitchen is hidden behind closed doors– which is not my favorite. Of course the tables have white table clothes and a pretty flower arrangement.
For food, we had the crab and avocado salad, mussels with french fries, chicken, and the lemon tart.
First, the crab with avocado salad( Le Crab Avocat) presentation was very pretty but it was boring in taste. The mussels and French fries(Les Moules) are large and good tasting but more bread is needed to enjoy the broth.
The main course of chicken (Le Poulet) and probability the restaurant’s most famous dish was good tasting but with a split plate we now had three servings of French fries. Too much. Lastly, the lemon tart (La Tarte Citron) and a glass of French Bordeaux wine were the hits of the evening. The tart’s presentation was beautiful and with a lemony taste rather than sweet was excellent. The wine was the savior of the evening. Service was friendly and efficient. But the price for the evening meal is very high, so be careful.
My ratings are: It’s OK, Good, Very Good, and Excellent.
The verdict for Le Bilboquet is Good considering the cost of the meal including a tip and valet parking totaled $145.00. One expects better!
