Hacienda Colorado

Hacienda Colorado has five restaurants in the greater Denver metropolitan area. We ate at the location on Colorado Boulevard just north of Interstate 25 on a warm summer evening. There is plenty of parking but no electric vehicle charging stations.

The menu is a huge double-sided document covering 53 different plates with a choice of seven sauce options. Question, who can prepare 53 different dishes well? Sadly, not Hacienda Colorado.

The restaurant is rather dark inside but it has two patio areas. We chose to eat on the patio. We started with a delicious margarita and chips. The main dishes we selected were the chicken and cheese quesadilla, fish tacos and Chile Relleno, and three shrimp tacos. The serving size of the dishes is very large but all four lacked the most important ingredient, flavor!

Fish tacos are one of my favorite Mexican dishes but Hacienda Colorado filled the shell with so much sliced cabbage, the fish was lost. The same goes for the shrimp tacos – the shrimp was lost among the toppings. The quesadilla is listed as an appetizer but it is a very large plate. Large, but, once again, flavorless.

Lastly, the one plate saving the meal was the sopapillas. A light and delicious dessert. So, the verdict for Hacienda Colorado is to enjoy a margarita and sopapillas and forget the other 53 main dishes.

My ratings are It’s OK, Good, Very Good, and Excellent.

The verdict for Hacienda Colorado is It’s OK.
