Beckon

Beckon, located at 2843 Larimer St, Denver, Co. is one of the great dining experiences you will enjoy. An unique Denver experience, a 19 seat Chef’s Table allows you to watch closely as your 8 course meal is prepared. The chef is Duncan Holmes of Frasca fame.

First, we have to find your way into this cloistered home. You enter through the fine casual eatery next door, Call. Diners have two dining options, 5:30 or 8:30 to enjoy the diverse courses. There is not a menu and the chefs decide what is on your table. Reservations are required as this is one the most popular foodie restaurants in Denver. Be aware the price is $95.00 prepaid at reservation time. Don’t forget to show up.

We enjoyed a warm greeting in the reception area by Allison Anderson, also of Frasca fame, and were seated promptly. Supper will take about 2 hours, so be on time. The first course is called snacks, little oysters and cheese balls that are turned on a flat pan into small balls. The whole prawn with aioli was the best fish or meat dish. The other courses were a small cup of soup, monkfish, lamb belly, duck, and venison. The highlight of the evening was the dessert, Fromage Blanco. Poached rhubarb sweeten with honey and made delicately into the shape of a red rose by the pastry chef and her tweezers into a glass bowl. See the attached picture of dessert and others. A very original and delicious dessert by one who does not enjoy desserts!

My ratings are “It’s OK”, “Good”, and “Very Good”, and “Excellent “.

Overall, the Beckon is rated very good!
